NBA praises Defra specialist for quick beef export sale resumption.
The National Beef Association has praised Defra specialists for working brilliantly with SCOFCAH vets in Brussels to engineer the re-export of both British fresh beef and live cattle from tomorrow (Saturday August 25th).
It says the re-opening of the 45,500 tonne a year beef export market will re-introduce an average income of £1.8 million a week for farmers and meat processors and help to stem the £20 a head price drop forced on British beef farmers since export markets shut down over three weeks ago.
“The quick resumption of export trading is a boost for everyone in the beef industry but in the meantime farmers should take note that some anti-FMD restrictions still apply and all stock is subject to a GB 20 day movement standstill that is expected to stand on a cross GB basis until somewhere around September 8th-12th,” said NBA director, Kim Haywood.
“Cattle owners in parishes under one and two years TB testing controls are also reminded that stock cannot be moved without the cover of a pre-movement test.”
