NBA positive about future of Scottish Beef Association.
The National Beef Association (NBA) is positive that a single body for Scotland can be formed, with NBA Scotland and the Scottish Beef Cattle Association joining forces to become a more influential organisation.
Talks between the two have been on-going and reached a particularly positive point on Friday (April 20th) when it was agreed that the single body would be called the Scottish Beef Association, to be formerly launched at the Royal Highland Show. John Ross was elected as interim Chairman, ahead of the first meeting in July, when a board will be formally elected. Jim Stewart and Scott Henderson are Vice Chairmen and Judith Hutchinson Honorary Treasurer.
Hamish McBean, NBA Scotland Chairman and NBA Chairman, has been dedicating his efforts to the NBA as a whole and is delighted that things have been able to move forward in Scotland at the same time as he has been working with the Review Committee/NBA Board to make the organisation fit for the future.
He says: “It’s positive news for us all at this current time. We are delighted with how things are moving on with the NBA and see the creation of the Scottish Beef Association as a step in the right direction too.
“This is not the NBA moving away from Scotland but quite the opposite, as we feel we can better serve Scottish beef farmers if we have one organisation instead of two. We want to put failed attempts to achieve this well and truly behind us by throwing out weight behind the Scottish Beef Association as our Scottish arm of the NBA.
“There are still a lot of details to sort, including exactly how the NBA and SBA will interact, but myself and the other NBA Trustees are looking forward to meeting with John Ross in the near future to put a plan in place.”
