Press Release: Repeat win for butcher in National Farm Butchery Competition at Beef Expo 2011

27th May 2011

Region: National

It was a second win in two years for butcher Steve Perrins of Taylors Farm Shop in the Farm Butchery Competition at Beef Expo 2011 at Newark.

Mr Perrins was repeating the success he enjoyed in the competition last year at Hexham and was praised by the judges for the overall quality of his display and the ingenuity in his use of cuts.

Taking second spot was Michael Dufton of Knitley Farm Shop and in third was John Brereton of Ludlow Food Centre.

Competition organiser Michael Richardson of EBLEX said the high quality of the entries was a great thing to see and bode well for the future of on-farm butchery and direct meat sales.

"The industry has moved on leaps and bounds in recent years and to see such an excellent range of talent and skill on display here today says a lot about where the industry is heading.

"The judges had a tough task on their hands selecting the winner and it is a credit to Steve that he has been able to come back here and defend his title successfully."
